Hello all,
I've ordered a pc and I'm not completely satisfied with my mobo choice:
Q6600
8800 gt sli
Asus P5N-D which i'm not so happy about after reading a few reviews.

What i'd like is :
1600 FSb
DD3 support
Sli
A mobo that won't give me trouble adding an aftermrket fan like a Zalman or similar.
I want a nice audio card OB.
If it has a cmos reset or a power test/reset button that what i'd like as well.
Not going to water cool in the forseable future.
Will probably be upgrading to SSD or a velociraptor drive soon as well.

Windows overclocking interface cuz i'm a lazy ass person sometimes, especially doing repetetive things.

I like asus so only asus. I want the Q6600 so only that, and yes, I want sli, but actually I only have 1 and in 6 months i'll get my brothers.

Did you do any research at all?

You only have 3 choices based on the DDR2, SLI, and Asus criteria only:
P5N-T
P5N72-T
Striker II Formula

Now the 1600fsb requirement is not realistic. No cpu will guarantee you an OC, so I don't really understand this requirement. You will get what you get, you just choose the best mobo for OCing.

The hsfu requirement is up to you as I am not going to research hsfu compatibility for a bunch of hsfu. Almost all of them will work, when you pick the specific one you want just read the user reviews.

If you mean nice onboard audio as in comparable to Creative or Auzentechs mid-upper level offerings, no OB audio can do that. If by nice you mean, it will play audio just fine and I won't have any complaints, then all them will work.

None of those mobos have a cmos reset. The Striker has power and reset though. Not sure why you want this as it won't really be that convenient for you.

HD upgrade, good for you. Those are both very fast options.

Windows OCing, lol. You can do it but you might as well not bother. Software OCing doesn't have proper voltage control so you can't even raise or lower the vcore well. I mean seriously, how hard is it to go into your bios and just punch in a 3 digit number?

Thanks for the quick reply.
I have actually looked at asus' website and looked through them but there are so damn many!
I looked at one and saw it didn't have what i want then another and saw something I need but something else it didn't have and so forth.

Yea, I am new as I haven't bought a pc in ages and had my laptop for many years, but i'm tired of my laptop not playing any reasonable games, so it's time to get ugly.

I really no very little about mobo choices. I know the basics and things they contain but damn these manufacturers should have a "find a mobo that's right for you" so you can get hone down exactly what you want instead of clicking every damn mobo they offer..

I would like to OC some things like the cpu, gpu and possibly memory, which is new to me, hence the requirement for GUI interface.

I have read a lot recently on OCing and plan to do after reading and understanding exactly what it goes through and what needs to be done.

nice OB sound card is fine, at the moment i'll stick to that. I do have a usb sound card from my laptop by creative. haven't used it for a while though. I have Klipsch 4.1 speakers since 2000 and it's more than enough for me.

I'll wait a little for HD and proabably will go the VR from WD as I think SSD are still underdeveloped from what i've read.
I will do a lot more research and reading. Tom's stuff is really good and learned many things through his articles.

I'll do the research right away for the MOBO's.
I thank you for your time.
Have a great day.

Thanks again.

I know you are knew to OCing but it really is the right way to do it in the bios. You won't learn anything from software OCing and could potentially screw things up more than if you were doing it in your bios. Your bios can be reset easily, a Windows installation can not. It isn't very hard at all, in fact there is a very good guide stickied in the OCing section. You can also go their to ask for help.

I just realized somthing is wrong.

Those all support dual sli. They just happen to also support tri.

So out of all the dual sli's asus have why really should I buy a tri-sli exactly. I'm not doubting, it's because on newegg, the striker and the 72 have very mixed reviews with a lot of DOA/RMA/defective returns.
Isn't there something more stable. I don't plan on tri-sli'ing.

Btw, using an antec 900 case.

the SIIF l from a few reviews, doesn't want to play nice with OCing.
I need something for easier OCing.

Look, given your requirements those are the only mobo choices you have. I don't care if you don't want tri-sli those support it but they also support normal sli. Every 780i (the chipset you need) chipset supports tri-sli and dual-sli. The only other option is the board you just had but don't want.

Also, EVERY mobo that uses an nvidia chipset is finicky, has lots of problems, and is hard to OC. This you will just have to deal with unless you don't want SLI.

Sorry to piss you off. really
Believe me it's exactly what i'm not trying to do..
I do thank you for your time and patience.
since there are very little choices for MB from asus are there any from another companies/models that you would recommend? something a bit mainstream since my supplier can't get everything.

Again, I don't mean to be a nag. I already bought the system. I paid, but put it on hold. I got too carried away. Just too nervous. Not enough info for amateurs on choosing the right MB. Big mistake. The place offers prebuilt systems but has weak components on certain bundles, so I needed to upgrade. Actually i wanted to go in to talk and I got too nervous and carried away.

I actually got memory of off ebay for the ddr2. so I could resell it. then get the dd3's
If I moved up to ddr i'm assuming the choices would be better?
how about 2 of these?:
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-KINGSTON-K [...] .m20.l1116
As well I plan on using a thermaltake xfi-14 with skythe or panoflo fans. the P5n-d doesn't have room for that.
Thanks again.

Sorry if I sound rude, may be carrying it from previous conversations :P.

ATM DDR2 is a much better deal than DDR3. That said DDR3 has much more life ahead of it than DDR2 does. If you can afford the massive cost than DDR3 might be worth it.

The Asus Striker II Formula is probably the best nvidia based board so if you can get it go for it. The only better boards all use Intel chipsets so unless you want to go for a crossfire or single gpu setup that mobo is your best choice.
