More Information

I recently tried to upgrade my aging system from 1gb RAM to 3gb. I meant to purchase 2sticks of G Skill, but by mistake, ordered A-Data that lookwed very similar with identical pricing. Oops. Rather than return it, I installed (impatient) and booted up. It booted fine, though no noticable speed difference. It recognized the RAM, but nothing was noticably faster, at all. When I tried to play a game (LotRO) I couldn't play at any higher settings, and when the sound was distorted. If I tried to play music (iTunes) while playing, it would be completely distorted. If trying to play music in iTunes while not playing, it's slightly distorted and skips. I've tried a couple of configurations - my old RAM was Corsair or Kingston ValuSelect (2x512). This is all ddr400, 184-pin, pc3200.

My system:

Mobo: ASUS p4p 800-e Deluxe
CPU: P4 2.8ghz with hs/fan
VCard: geforce2 750 ultra (256mb)
Power: 600watt ultra
hard drive: 76gb 10k rpm WD
Sound: some old soundblaster that until now, has been great

I know it's an old system, but I was hoping that this would give it a few more months of life for cheap. Any help?

Thanks, so much!
