More Information

I recently built a new machine after being out of the computer world for many years. I have a...

Intel Q9650 @ 3.0ghz (not OC'ed yet)
Gigabyte GA-EP45-Extreme
8gb Mushkin XP2 - 8500 (4 X 2gb)
Sapphire Radeon HD 4870

Now that being said, I have a problem... I've run 3dMark Vantage, CPU-Z and looked at the Windows information panel in Vista Ultimate (64 bit) and everything says my memory is running at 800mhz. It should be 1066 I believe. Anyone have any thoughts please?

There is no official standard for 1066 memory - DDR2 stops at 800. So what people buy when they choose 1066 RAM is memory that's guaranteed by the maker to overclock to 1066.

Please manually set your memory divider, timings, and voltages to those recommended by your memory maker.

Also, be advised that running 4x2GB at 1066 is highly stressful on your motherboard/memory controller. You may need to adjust timings, and voltages to get that much running that fast. Strongly recommend leaving your memory at relaxed timings/speeds until you have your processor overclock sorted out. Then once that is fully stable, then you can go back and revisit your RAM.

The more I read the forums, the more I feel that a number of individuals would be well served by skipping their next GPU purchase in favor of a little "Stress relief" from the local 'Working Girls'"

There is now a JEDEC standard for DDR2-1066.

If you have problems:

Increase voltage to 2.1v. Relax timings.

Set the RAM voltage to max and bump up the NB voltage until its stable, but not too much. Plus you need to set the tRFC over 54.

Ok, thanks for the input guys. I will leave the memory as it is for now (it seems a little beyond me anyways) until I figure out how to overclock the CPU. I'll attempt the overclocking in a next couple of weeks once I get a good cooler.
