More Information

Hello all,

I've recently decided to throw a new quad core in my desktop. I think I made a mistake while making sure my specs were matching up - as it took me a while to find out that my mobo is NOT compatible with an Intel Quad. I've been running a 975x7ab for the past two years, coupled with a Duo and everything was fine. While browsing cpu's on Newegg, I had to use another site to cross check the specs on my board and everything looked okay... my bad!

However, after a week of half-assed diagnostics on my part, trying to figure out why my machine is now so unstable, I have JUST realized from Foxconn's site (where I should have checked specs in the first place) - that there are TWO versions of the 975x7ab. Mine, and a 2.0! My original ab apparently does NOT support a quad core!

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor 65nm 1066MHz FSB
FOXCONN 975X7AB-8EKRS2H 1066 / 800 / 533 MHz FSB

So now I know why Sandra has been telling my to reduce my FSB and my mulitplier :ange:

I'm looking into a new board asap, but was wondering if anyone knew of a way to stabilize my system until I can get one installed? I'm not that knowledgeable with OCing, but I've been learning a bit more as I've been nosing around in BIOS and the Fox One OC control panel the past week trying to figure out what is wrong....

TIA :sol:
