I'm building a digital audio workstation-

my understanding was with a pciE port, firewire 800 (1394b) is unnecessary.

please let me know your thoughts because firewire 800 limits you greatly on what MB you can choose from.

a pcie slot is used for expansion cards. a firewire port is used to connect devices. two completely different interfaces....
