Hi, this is my rig's spec

AMD Athlon 3200+
Asus A8N-E
DDR400 256MBx2 , DDR400 1GBx2
IDE DVDWriter
Western Digital SATA 80GB, WD SATAII 250GB

Recently I bought a WD SATAII 500GB hdd, i plugged it in, and when I boot up, after the beep, it shows my Asus motherboard's logo, and it stuck there forever, not even going into BIOS. If I unplug the power for my DVDWriter, it will boot. If not, i have to wait for luck for it to boot. Am I power shortage or my DVDWriter is going to spoil?

Thanks.

Try unplugging the EIDE cable from the DVD/RW while leaving the power hooked up. If it still has problems you may have a PSU issue. What is the make of your PSU along with the age and +12V amperage if I might ask. The cheap units degrade badly with time and it could be nearing the end if it's useful lifespan. Also, check your new Hd and see if it has a jumper to manually swith it to SATA 150. I highly doubt your older Mb supports SATA 300.

Hi,

I'm using Acbel 300W. It is an 3-4 years old machine. I had do more testing, from what you said, I suspect is my IDE problem, I had tried both IDE slot (with new IDE cable as well), one slot does not POST, one slot do POST, but it doesn't boot from my DVDRom (I spoilt my OS, need to boot from DVD to reinstall).

I had even tried my friend's DVDRom and his sata-IDE convertor (when i return to him, is his turn he cannot detect his rom, lol, think I spoilt his thing), tried many pieces of installation DVD, even tried usb external DVDRom (it works before everything die), everything just won't works, the DVDROm can be detected at BOIS, but just wouldn't boot my installation DVD, had tried to remove extra component (incase not enough power) and left only the DVDRom with my single HDD, no luck...

What might went wrong over here?

Assuming your PSU is This one, it very well could be on it's way out. Unfortunately That is as close as I could get to finding your exact one with the given information. Still, a 4 year old value 300W PSU is more than past it's prime and is scheduled to self destruct at any moment.

From here try all the basics. Remove everything from your system but 1 stick of RAM, GPU, CPU, Hd and DVD drive. Give it a try and then vary the configuration. Try the RAM in all available slots. Same with the Hd and DVD drive. If you get it to work, add components in one at a time until you find something making is stop working.

If all else fails, you can build a new machine for not much more than $300 on an extreme budget. Any current machine, even at the low end will smoke what you have now. What is you box used for currently?

Thanks for the fast reply and helps.

Currently I'm using this
AMD Athlon3200+
Asus A8N-E
Kingston DDR400 256MBx2, 1GBx2
DDR400 256MBx2 , DDR400 1GBx2
IDE DVDWriter
Western Digital SATA 80GB, WD SATAII 250GB , WD SATAII 500GB

Anyhow, I'm builing a new machine (had planned before current machine having problem), yet still want to have current machine working.

Will test it as soon as I'm home :)

Still no luck...:(

Sorry to say but it is not looking good.
If you could borrow a known good PSU and test your system with that it would be great. From what I am hearing something is defiantly FUBAR. To be honest it is probably not worth dumping any $$ into this system. Sorry about your luck but at least now you have a great reason to upgrade!
