Hey guys..looking to get 8gbs on this board but not sure if it supports it or not.
I've been one other person with 8gb but it was 800mhz not 1066mhz.
The gigabtye/corsair forums give nothing about this ram or board so am looking to see if there's anyone else out there with 8gbs.

So board is Gigabyte X48-DS4 and ram is Corsair Dominator 1066mhz DDR2 (link below)

No need to tell me 4GB is enough..it's not when you're running virtual machines etc.
And I already have this 4gb kit in the board.

And thanks a lot.

If your motherboard has 4 memory slots it will support 8 gigs. You just need to go 64bit on the OS to see it...

I checked the site and it supports up to 8 gigs:

As I said you will need a 64bit operating system to see and use it.

I appreciate the help but I know the board supports 8GBs.
The question is will it support this brand of memory. A lot of boards are extremely fussy about what brand of ram they use and using 4 sticks of ram in the board seems to cause a lot of hangs +BSODs.
I'm hoping there's someone out there with the same board with the same ram. Hopefully :)
Thanks anyway

Ok, your original question was you didnt know if it supported 8 gigs or ram or not. But thats ok.

Look at the memory compatability sheet for your mobo and if you see the same brand with similar timings it should work but you know how that is.

Do you have 2 2gig sticks of ram and are thinking about getting 2 more gigs? If your concerned about compatability and dont think your ram is compatable then get a different brand of ram that is on the mobo spec sheet. DDR2 is so cheap its unreal so it should be easy to get around that.

i use 8 gigs for no particular reason but it does work fine, only ddr2 800 though but i believe it can support 1066 and higher if overclocked.

ain't at home to check the manual but i would imagine it would have a preferred vendors list on gigabytes website if those lists are worth anthing at all.

Based on our testing and the board spex, the board should run 4 modules at DDR800 easily. Anything above that will depend on the memory controller and your luck OCIng.
