My system will occasionally power off and then power right back on. It does this just randomly for no apparent reason.

Specs:

*Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 overclocked to 3Ghz (375 * 8)
*Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R motherboard updated to the latest F12 BIOS
*2 2GB DIMMs of Geil DDR2 800MHz memory running at 750MHz (375 X 2.00)
*eVGA NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTX video card
*4 SATA HDDs
*2 CD/DVD drives
*SeaSonic S12 600WATT PSU
*Antec P180 case
*Windows XP Professional x64 SP2 with the latest drivers for all my devices including motherboard chipset drivers


What happens is the system just shuts off for about 2 seconds and then it just automatically powers back on and boots up successfully as if nothing was wrong.

It does this on an average of about once or twice per day. However, I have had a few days in a row where this does not happen at all. I leave my computer on all day and shut it down before I go to bed at night.

I have stress tested the system for stability and all tests pass without a hitch. I have ran dual instances of Prime95 64-bit for hours without any errors. I have run MemTest for hours without any errors.

*CPU temps according to Core Temp idle around 44-47C and load around 62-64C.

*Video card temp idles around 63C and at load is around 81C.

I'm pretty sure those temperatures are fine as the stress testing seems perfectly stable and I've heard those temps are fine and not too high?

The reason I posted this in the motherboard thread is because this issue seems to be something this motherboard does as it sounds like it is doing the exact same kind of power off and power back on as it does after the bus speed is adjusted in the BIOS. I think this motherboard normally does this to adjust to the new clock speed settings for an overclock. Only difference here seems to be it does this in the middle of the Windows desktop when at idle or browsing the web in Firefox as opposed to doing it after saving the BIOS settings like it is supposed to.

Once again, Windows does not shut down normally, the computer just powers off out of the middle of nowhere and then promptly powers back on and boots successfully as if nothing happened. And all of the overclocked settings in the BIOS stay at their values I had them set at and DID NOT revert back to the stock settings. If this was an issue of this system not being able to handle an overclock,

I would think that the motherboard would revert back to the stock settings in the BIOS. I have seen it do this before when it was brand new after I tried to overclock it too far when it wouldn't even POST. I got it to a stable overclock and never had any problem for the past year of owning this system until just the last month or so. However, it once again POSTS just fine and runs fine almost all the time, except for this annoying power off and power back on out of the middle of nowhere?

ANy ideas what could be wrong? Possible a bad power sensor on the motherboard?

Remove your ram of your computer..and then star them. If your pc makes noices.. shutdown. If they didn't respond you motherboard its death. then , placed the ram in the corecly place.

and remove the battery that you find bettowen vga slot and other.. after about 10 sec placed the battery in the place and star. if you have made this and your problem dose not fix. Try to remove your cpu and make sure that it they well placed the refrigeration of processor...

I built my system on top of this motherboard in June. All my components are from New Egg. Starting about a month ago, the computer was asleep but no lights were on the power button. I pushed the power button and the computer went into a cycle of off and on. Since then, 90% of the time I cannot get a clean boot up. The computer goes immediately into a sleep mode that I cannot awaken it from or it starts cycling through an incomplete boot, off, on again over and over again. During the brief start-ups it doesn't even load any drivers.

This is only the most serious problem I have had. At first I could not get sound from the board from the proper output in back, finally bought a sound card to fix that problem. Gigabyte's web site is not user friendly. I can find no mention of this problem on the site. I have found other people posting similar problems on other posts.

I am calling them today when they open. I am past the 30 day return on NewEgg. Will followup to let yall know what happens.

Just got off the phone with Gigabyte. They tell me that there must be a short somewhere. They want me to strip every component off the board and remove from case and see if the fan comes on when I turn it on. Then add one component at a time after that to see if a particular component is causing the short.
They say it may be something underneath the board.

I have my doubts since the problem comes and goes.

I plan to check all connections first before I disassemble.

I stripped the motherboard down to itself and power supply. The problem seemed to go away. I put the processor back on and it started up again. I chatted with Intel, they said they would replace the processor. I will RMA today.
