Gpu or actually gpu's will be 2 8800gts (g92) 512 mb in SLI as they are 1119.99 AR!! this should be playing most games in 19x12??

also plan to raid some drives but not now...

was thinking if i should wait and get the q9550 when the price goes dwn.... either way

Comments:

- 8800GTS is bad plan at the moment. There are plenty of new, faster offerings around from ATi and NVidia. You can buy a 9800GTX for $200, or 4850's for the same money. Alternatively wait for the 4870 due this coming week.

- Motherboard try Intel X48 boards if you want to X-fire (2x ATi). NVidia chipset for SLI. Gigabyte make good boards. (~$200 for X48)

- A q9550 looks over the top (and overpriced). Go with something like q6600 (~$200) or q9300 if you want quad or E8400 for dual. NB: purely gaming higher clocked dual is the way to go. You could overclock to get faster clock speed. Try an Xigmatek cooler for overclocking otherwise stock will be fine.

- Try Seagate 7200.11 for HDD. (~$85 for 500Gb). RAID probably isn't worth the effort to be honest.

- Try a brand name for RAM (OCZ, mushkin, corsair), go for 4Gb of PC6400 (800MHz). There are a couple of 4GB Reaper kits going for about $100.

- Not a great fan of rosewill PSUs, they don't rank well in the hierarchy charts. If you could swap it I would and go for a TX750 from Corsair. 900W is overkill on just mammoth proportions. (750W is probably pushing overkill!)

That brings you out around $1000. Slightly more if you opted for 4870's.

I agree with jpdykes - right now is a good time for a system builder.

I have the 8800GTS and love it, but I've had it awhile.

There are tons of offerings in the GPU market. If you are going to go w/ nVidia, then 9800 GTX, or wait on the 9800gtx + (soon I believe).

The crossfire is tempting now too - especially with the low cost of the high-performing ati cards.

I agree about Rosewill PSUs. I like some of their products, but I wouldn't trust them on PSUs, and 900w is way overkill.

Can't say I agree with that. G92 8800gts runs on the identical g92 core with 128 stream processors as 9800gtx, and perform about the same as 4850/9800gtx. That performance for only $119.99 ar is just too cheap to call "bad." The difference in price is too large to dismiss.

the GTS has peaked. I assume, with the 4800s anyway, that there will be continuing diver improvments.

I also only consider half the value of a rebate when deciding on somethings cost. rebates invole lots of time, hassle, and the possability that you might get stiffed. but thats just a personal thing. Either way, its not ONLY $119.99.
also look at the actual rebate. you might not be able to get 2 rebates at the same time. thats another common trick.

you can also get a 4850 for $175 after MIR and it comes with a free game too.
