I want to know how to reset my MOBO and start from scratch there too

I know I sound lost because I am...my first attempt at self build...

I don't know about you, but I don't install os unless I make sure the pc is stable. it's common mistake. I've seen it a # of times here and in another forum.

On a working pc, google & download memtest to a disk.

On the new build, clear cmos (see manual for how), remove all but 1 stick of ram, power on, go to bios, load defaults, save & exit, run memtest for 5 passes, if it errors out, go back to bios, up vdimm to specs (google), try memtest again, if memtest checks out, install the rest of ram, do memtest for the last time.

If memory checks out, install windows. Vista setup has an "advanced" button on the middle-right before install. That unlocks the tool for formatting/partitioning harddisks.

I had made changes to the BIOS so I reset the CMOS with a jumper. That does seem to help with the blue screen so far....
Will doing this reset of the CMOS require me to load the MOBO drivers again or are they still in there?

I will load from Vista disk and try to reformat the drive. I will load Vista first then MOBO drivers again. I believe I recall seeing the drivers you listed so they will go next.

One problem I notice is when I follow Start-programs-accessories-system info...it will not show me any information. I t says the program is not loaded. Something I have never seen before....

When I downloaded the video driver I simply installed it....not sure if that is path to take...should I find video cared info and update driver somehow?

Thanks again

I checked the device manager. With the new driver I can see the 9800 GTX and not the standard VGA device that was there. The driver is dated 5/16/2008 and is version 7.15.11.7519 that I downloaded today. Driver from nvidia was dated a few days ago, maybe I am still not loading it correctly.

I rolled back the driver to test to see if it was the driver and I can see my desktop again.......

Any pointers now?
