Why are you getting a P45 board for a CrossFire setup like this? It will only do 8X x2 in Crossfire as opposed to the X38 or X48 boards which will do 16X x2 CrossFire.

im pretty sure tat psu will b enough for 4870x2. I got the same psu and waiting 4 the same graphics. i got no worries. It looks pretty powerful with 52a on the 12v rail. Wonder how many 6 pin connectors the 4870 is gonna have, 4870 has two 6 pin...perhaps two 8 pins

he means sparta the single card i think? But anyways if it says 650 then you will be find because they normally over estimate and that corsair is really like a 700watt compared to cheap power supplys.

i agree. i like having options when i buy computer parts even if i ain't using it at the moment. i would rather get a x38/48 board just in case you ever go CFx ;)

It's definately not enough for 4870x2 plus an oced 65nm quad. It'll boot, but crush on full load. Brands aside, a tractor made by BMW is still just a tractor. When it's not enough, it's not enough. You'd need at least 750w with good 12v rail ratings, ideally 850+w just to be safe and leave some headroom.

WTF? since when is a corsair 650 a "tractor" ?

Go ahead and run your 850w psu and waste all the electricity you want. I hear energy is cheap right now.

requires a 650w 1-6pin 1-8 pin

http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp
If you use that with my set up it only comes out to 542watts

I'm looking to get a 4870x2 and I have a OCZ 700w gameXstream. So I guess that would run it. And it has 4 12v Rail with 18A on each (for I guess 48A total) is that good?

It has 1 6 pin and 1 6+2 pin(Would that be 8 pin?) http://www.ocztechnology.com/produ [...] sli_ready_ its near the bottom of the page. Would that work? for a 4870X2.

Its a little premature to be guessing on the power consumption an HD 4870X2, seeing as we haven't yet seen any real info on the product. You can take a wild assed guess based 4870 x 2 but that is no guarantee. Just wait for it, or else make sure you add a comfortable margin just in case. Also, when using that power supply calculator, make sure you include your planned overclock on the cpu, and allow 10-20% at least for capacitor aging.

from the initial reference boards for the 4870 x2 had a 6 and an 8 pin connector and it looked like it could run with just 2 6 pins
