Hello Everyone

If you own a system with an Intel QX6850 processor and an Asus striker extreme mobo, would you please like to post your voltage readings from the bios here when your CPU is at stock speeds and all the voltage control settings on AUTO.

i have a striker extreme mobo with a q6600 that i am oc'ing to 3GHz, but i have some problems with it and i think it is the voltages causing them.
I know that the striker extreme supports a QX6850 which is a 3GHz cpu and i would like to see at what voltages the mobo will be running that cpu. I know you cannot compare two different cpu's with each other but i just want to try it.
So i would be very pleased if someone who has such a system reported his/her stock voltages that he/she reads in the bios.

Here is the problem: Striker Extreme, or I should put it more accurately, the Nvidia 680i chipset.

Nvidia chipsets are notoriously known for their lack of ability to overclock Intel's quad cores, especially so with the 6-series chipset.

However, if you have the time (and the patience) to do a lot of tweaking, you can start by looking into the GTL reference voltages.

dead on.

my 680i mobo gives me nothing but problems when trying to OC my Q6600. im dumping it for a Maximus II.

Best I got was 3.2ghz on my old 650i... even with speed step enabled.

Although, I'll never see the Q6600 run at 3.6ghz, but then I'm happy, without need an extra 400mhz.

I got my Q6600 to 3.0Ghz, not stable, with 650i chipset. No matter how I tweaked, at best I could only get to 2.99Ghz. After switching to P35, I hit 3.6Ghz on my first try.

I had the same problem as you, getting past 3ghz. On my MB, it was the cooling for the chipset that limited me. The NB & SB chip was reaching over 60C being linked to the cooler that covered the voltage reg & NB. After breaking that up with separate HS, was when I managed to get past 3ghz, and the SB chip was at 36C tops, and NB was at 47-50C tops. The next problem was my RAM, which I believe they are too power hungry when using 2 sticks.

 

But anyhoo, ya the P35 is over all, a better chipset to OC the quad.
