More Information

I just RMAed my PSU because of a high pitched noised that sounds kind of like bad disc brakes on a car. The noise is a little louder than the PSU fan, but it drives me crazy. Well I got the new PSU today & after a few hours, it starts again. The noise is only while the system is in windows and relatively idle. If I put any load on it such as flash player, benchmarking, or gaming, it stops screeching. It also doesn't make any noise in bios.

The distributor suggested that I might have a bad resistor in my mobo that's causing it. I have another rig with a 800 watt PSU & I'll switch them out after my room mate wakes up & see what happens. I wanted to get some opinions from you guys in the meantime. Does this even sound possible? The noise is coming from the PSU, no where else.

This is my current machine.
