I just bought a 9800GTX. It will not support DVI on my Gateway FPD2275W LCD monitor. Have looked at scores of posts since problem began.

I am surprised the nVidea problem was not more spoken of.... either way...was always an nVidea fan

Not anymore!!! Driver support pissed me off.... Seems problem is a year old now. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I am shipping it back in the AM. I am either buying a 4850 or a 4870. You tell me!!!!!!!!!!!

My system is in my signature. I plan on getting a slightly bigger monitor in the future.

Will the 4850 be enough for now or is the extra $100 worth it for the 4870.

Play WOW, BF2, MoH, flight sims, like to try Crysis.......

The 4850 perform the same as 9800gtx. 4870 perform better, so ideally, get 4870.

Crossfire depends on your motherboard.

My issue is the 9800 does not perform at all. The driver will not support my current monitor. If I am keeping this monitor for a year will the 4850 suffice...can always upgrade later

What if 4850/70 doesn't work with your monitor either? If it works with everyone else's monitor, it's the monitor's problem.

if you have a sli mobo i would keep it
if your main game is crysis i would keep it

if your case cooling is bad i would keep it

remembver the 4870 blows in the case not out - if you have a crossifire mobo i would get it

I'm with you on that. I found the post below and it appears it happens with numerous monitors but the one thing in common appears to be the nVidea driver. I would love to keep my 9800 but I'm pretty sure the driver that supports it and my monitor will not be corrected.

If I have the same issue with a replacement I will get a new monitor and will be asking those questions on these boards in a few days.

I just need an experienced push towards the 4850, 4870 or still trying to fix my current issue. I just think the issue is a driver from nVidea that will not support some LCD monitors and I cant play my games this evening.....

4870, 4850 is the exact same thing.

Have you tried a different driver, there are quite a few to choose from.

My mobo is Gigabyte EP45-DS3R 45 chipset and has x-fire support. It actually does not mention SLI so prolly porked myself from the beginning out of nVidea admiration.

I only tried the nVidea one but will load one from that site to check it out...

If you are heavy into AA then the 4850 will slightly perform better. The 4850 can be overclocked so that it does not tie the 9800 GTX XXX later down the road. The 4850 should perform better in future games. All this is not very important, if you can fix the problem then keep the 9800 GTX and save on shipping.

They sure are the same thing.....because GDDR3 and GDDR5 are the same thing...The clocks are also different as well. But maybe that doesn't mean anything and they are the same......who knows...lol

I ordered a 4850 myself, if you have the budget I say go with the 4870. The gains over the 4850 are pretty impressive. The energy in which you told us to pick a video card for you made me lol for the first time today.

Well I think they are different in clock speeds. I do not have much knoledge about technical stuff with graphics cards but I been reading their is a sigificant gain between 4850/4870 in performance.

I think you misunderstood, pcgamer is saying that he/she should get the 4870 because the 4850 is almost the same thing as what s/he already has.

Get the 4850 unlike others have said it is faster than a 9800gtx by a good bit and even more so at higher resolution or with AA turned on.

My 9800 never worked anyways and I am upgrading from a 4 year old comp with a 7600 gs. Should behuge difference for me.

but i would order an after market cooler one for a 3850/3870 fits its not a hot chip but they put a crap cooler on it

plus the guy that said 4870 blows in the case not out
has not got a clue what he's talking about
it blows the hot air out unlike the gtx it just blows
