I have a Sagar np2090 (specs below) that I love, but the screen is too small. Could I run a 1920 x 1200 monitor and run the laptop at 1680 x 1050? My dream is to have a "dual" monitor with the laptop screen and a 24" monitor both displaying different things (i.e. run yahoo messenger on my laptop screen while playing solitare on my 24" screen). Do you think this is possible? Ohh and I am thinking about purchasing the HP w2408h, so if anyone has any comments on that please chime in. Thanks.

Specs
-C2D T7300
-8600m GT 512mb
-2gb ram
-160gb 5200rpm HD
-1680 x 1050 matte 15.4" screen
-Windows XP

There's no reason it shouldn't be possible with those specs.
Even very old cards can do multi displays, so it ought to work.

I'm not much for HP overall, lots of laptops from them dead and beyond repair in the shop.

I've been extremely satisfied with LG picture quality myself, never had a dead pixel, and best color reproduction even among cheaper displays...
But thats incredibly subjective, noone likes the same things, try and play with it in some store and see if it fits you.

Thanks for the reply. It looks like I'll be ordering my screen this weekend then. Either Samsung or LG makes the actual screen for the display. The reason I want the HP is because it has a glossy screen, 92% color gamut and it has an audio out incase I get a ps3 or a blu-ray player I can hook it up via HDMI and actually get sound out to my Logitech z-2300s.

NP2090

Its been awhile since I've been on a laptop (previous job). Hard to say what the video card will allow in resolutions for your LCD, and external LCD.

I do remember with Windows 2000/XP Pro, I could extend my desktop, so I could have one monitor at a certain resolution, and the LCD at another. So I think its very possible, just hard to say what resolutions it will allow.

Heck you've got a powerful laptop there!! So why do you have to even ask this question? Maybe if there was an O.S. issue (like using an old/non-standard GNU/Linux distro)...

I used to runwalk my P4 laptop (1400x1050) with SIS on-board graphics :pt1cable: hooked up via VGA to an external 1600x1200 TFT monitor (both at native resolution)... It was a bit slow but worked OK!

I ask these questions because I am super crazy/paranoid whenever I buy something that is >$100. I did a ton of research when I bought my laptop and I researched this monitor a good deal also. I just want to make sure everything preforms up to my expectations.

Yes, even my old P4 mobile laptop with Radeon X700 mobility is still work fine for Dual displays. The 8600m for 1920X1200 maybe a little bit slow but it would work fine.

You are trying to bait someone right?? A 8600m is way more powerful than the X700 - being many generations newer and based on the much newer Nvidia 8xxx architecture. It will rock for 1920x1200. It will do HD video acceleration and 2D desktop display without any lagging...

Obviously it will suck for FPS 3D games but only something in the region of an 8800GTX 512Mb is any good for HD laptop gaming anyways.... I think it would cope with Solitaire OK!!
