Why would you want a pentium D? Old, hot and under powered. Get something worthwhile.

Must be.
Still seems like a waste.
Better off saving up a little more and getting a worth while system.
Just my 0,02€

Pentium D = 2 - 4 MB cache and somewhat good performance as well as somewhat cheap. seen a Pentium D Extreme go for $64 on ebay.

Pentium D Extreme > E22xx and cheaper.

A e2180 at 2Ghz will most likely beat the crap of a pentium D at 4Ghz. And you can easilly hitwith OC 3Ghz+ on the e2xxx. It's like 5$ more than the pentium D you mentioned on newegg, and you will save that on electricity with time :P

Then why not get a Core2Duo? The Pentium D's are not worth the money anymore. They run hotter and slower than any Core2Duo. For $65, I would still take a Pentium E CPU over any Pentium D.

E22xx will smoke Pentium D Extreme. Cache doesn't mean jack as compared to the clock per clock advances.

Save up and buy a new CPU the E22xx will mop the floor with the extreme Pentium and don't forget that the Pentium is redundant were the E22xx is fairly future proof.

If I recall from another thread, he had one of the E2xxx and didn't like the temps and how he wasn't able to overclock on a stock fan.

E1200 and its faulty. 70C on load on stock clocking is faulty.

So, why not get a better heatsink? Also, have you checked the cooler to see if it was seated right? Done any troubleshooting? Contacted Intel to see if there is a way to see if the chip is faulty? To be blunt, it would be stupid to go from a Core2Duo CPU to a Pentium D because of temp issues. They weren't called "Pres-hots" for no good reason.

I had a pentium d, didnt get very hot at all. 2.66 ocd to 3.8 and never exceeded 60C when it was 90F (108F in the case) in the room (was in the Philippines).

ROFLMAO another case of the user not knowing how to install the 775 HSF correctly :sarcastic:

that E1200 would probablty run pasivly with a pentium d heat block

They're cheap for a reason, everyone wants to get rid of them.

The Pentium D EE could barely hold it's own against a C2D based celeron.

You were lied to.

You're doing it wrong.

LOL downgrade your cpu to a Pentium D good one haha, when you dont install the cooler on that new system properly you will realise what heat problems are

Cache means nothing, its more how its implemented and used etc - age old comparison - Celeron 400mhz (128k L2) vs P2 400 (512k L2) vs AMD K6-2 400mhz (1mb L2) - because of the implementation and design the Celeron 400mhz came out on top, same deal with Northwood vs Prescott, A64 vs Pentium D etc - specs are one thing, performance is another.

Please whatever you do next, dont say the pentium d is also running faster (GHz)

Question - if your Pentium D was so great, why did you upgrade to a Celeron E1200?
