Well they call for 600w and he's going to overclock, so some headroom is called for. I just haven't seen many reviews about the Xigmatek to recommend it. Other top tier 600w PSUs are either as expensive or only save $20. I'd rather have the headroom and stability.

With the Antec 900 you really don't need the extra fan.

The XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler is a pain to install and is hardly a marginal improvement over the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 pro.

Look below:

Foremost you want air flow through the case, front to back seems to be the best. Side fans to me are mostly a nuisance as I have more than one computer side by side. So I would remove the side fan, that is if my front to back airflow is adequate to cool the system.
Next I look for a good cooler that gives a good performance to dollar ratio, or bang for buck, and that is not so hard to install that it requires additional hardware to get the job done.

I have pretty much came up with the following after looking at the cooling ability of a couple of the more talked about coolers on this forum.


This is the number that you want to beat.
Thermal Resistance: 0.17°C/Watt
Anything higher is a waste of your money.
If this number is not given, move along.

Oh by the way this is from the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro, $32 retail.

Thermal Resistance 0.16 - 0.21 °C / W from web site, $57.58 delivered.
Again over priced and a pain in the ass installation.

Bang for buck winner here, the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro.
Why bother with anything else?

XIGMATEK has a new unit out the Xigmatek Achilles S1284 for $45 before shipping.

This may be the new big boy on the block.

With installation of the XIGMATEK' being so problematic and almost requiring the extra mounting bracket,
that costs an extra $10. I would still go for the Freezer 7 Pro.

I kinda like the Corsair 750. It's not modular, but it has very good voltage regulation, extra long sheathed cables (great for bottom mount), a 120mm fan, and a whopping 60 amp on the 12v rail....oh...It also has 2, 6 pin PCI connectors plus 2, 6+2 pin PCI connectors. It should cover any video upgrades for a while.:-) Forgot to mention it can be found on sale for 110.00 cdn.

and that aside I have a question about the 750 watt PSU ~ although it is overkill, since I have plans to upgrade I don't mind getting something higher than the 600 line... however I read some people in pricegrabber say that the fan of the 750TX is located below and that it wouldn't work with my antec nine hundred case (since the PSU is located below)... so, anyway doesn't that mean the 750TX isn't applicable to the antec nine hundred or is there a way to solve this? Also what's with the 650tx, the younger brother of the 750, how come people always say its a doa... does this mean corsair makes bad pSU?

I've a Corsair TX750 in my Coolermaster CM690. It's a bottom mount , and there are no issues, nor should there be in your case. I have mine mounted upside down so it draws air from outside the case through the bottom. The Antec 900 doesn't have venting in the bottom of the case so you'll mount it normally and allow the 120mm fan to draw air in from the case interior and vent it out the back of the PSU. Should work great!!!

Seems like they have come to thier senses, it's now $115 and a $25 rebate.
With a code from the newsletter another $10 comes off, $80 bucks total is a good deal.
