Mouse cursor jumps on screen XP

Forum Motherboards & Memory : Elitegroup Mouse cursor jumps on screen XP

Word :    Username :

The cursor on my XP machine jumps around on screen corner to
corner opening and closing files even on the start button.

I've swapped out working mice from cordless to optical
and tried usb or ps2. The computer works fine with an old
rolling ball style logitech in the ps2 port.

I start the computer in safe mode and all of these work
with no problems.

I really don't want the hassle of a reformat and install
This would take hours or days with windows XP...

THIS BUG IS DRIVING ME CRAZY !

Anything you guys can do to help would surely be appreciated.

2gig patriot memory ddr2

Thanks in advance..

Do you have ANY 3rd party mouse drivers/utilities installed...something you may have forgotten about?

Drivers for the mouse is a logitech in device manager
it lists and exe file with 5 other sys files.
i8042prt.sys
L8042pr2.sys
etc...
LColnst.Dll

maybe this is the issue...
I could udated rollback or unistall ?
maybe use XP to install the correct one?

I had the same problem and all I did was clean the eye on the mouse using a Q-tip....problem solved. Another problem could be the receiver is not in the line of sight. Check your batteries. Don't let windows install the driver go to the product website.

I had a problem with the Logitech MX5500 Revolution mouse jumping. It was the mousepad. Change the surface that you use it on. I had a pad that had a gloss coat on the surface and went with a dull cloth pad and fixed my problem.

That sounds wierd but it worked.

I had the same problem using my old optical mouse direcly on the glossy surface of my desk, and using a cheap foam mousepad, the problem was gone! Try it.
This also explain why a ball mouse works well :D

I use a Kensington track ball and have a similar problem only in Solidworks. I've contacted both vendors. SW says the Kensington driver is working outside of the Microsoft spec. Kensington has stonewalled the issue and refuses to even update their drivers anymore. It' been happening for so many years that I've gotten used to it. I like my Kensington trackball too much to ababdon it.

I think the Logitech driver is my problem.
using the same mouse I installed the standard XP driver. i8042prt
It worked 100% for one full day. I'm assuming its fixed
same mouse pad too.
Thanks to everyone for their input !
Cheers

That doesn't surprise me. I've had the Logitech drivers either be really beautiful for some devices (DiNovo Edge & MX Revolution) and just plain stink for others (DiNovo).

Don't worry about the date. For this issue, it's irrelevant. Why? Cuz Google understands -- being the god it is -- that some problems are timeless and for each generation of seekers of whatever Truth, it gives us the benefit of historical solutions/processes thereof and assumes that new fodder will make its way into the mix to enhance the old.

E.g., Inferno1217's '08 Q-Tip advice seems to have helped my psychoMouse calm down... It goes where it's pointed, now.

It's all good.
