You cannot do SLI on Intel-based boards, so if you're planning on doing 2- or 3-way SLI, you MUST buy a nVidia 750/780/790 board.

I would suggest the X48. At the moment, the 4850 is the best bang/buck and can perform miracles in Crossfire (ok, maybe not, but you get the point).

Now that is just absolutely ludicrous

If you already have a nvidia video card, you might want to go for the xfx.
Otherwise, stay with Gigabyte. It's solid and quiet (no fans neede to coole chipset).

I won't not recommend go the route of buying a nvidia chipset mobo as they have more issues compared to the intel ones. I would crossfire as it is the best option and cheaper too.

If you already have an nVidia card, sell it. Get the X48 and two HD 4870 cards.

Do you have a PSU that can handle SLI or Crossfire?

Don't overlook the P45 boards. The ASUS P5Q3 Deluxe is a nice board.

But as far as X48 mobos go, I'd go with the DFI LANPARTY UT X48-T3R.

I agree as well P45/X48, Nvidia chipsets are not the choice right now.

If you're gonna go SLI or Crossfire, base it on the chipset that support the flavor of video card you prefer.

In my case, I see no value in SLI or crossfire. I think it is retarded to overspend to that degree on a video subsystem. I get a much better ROI by buying a new video card more often then spending twice as much and not getting that much more out of it.

Unless you are going to be a 30" screen gamer, you are better served by buying a new video card every year and not worrying about getting two of 'em.

Save $100 and get the Gigabyte GA-EX38-DS4 and put it into your card. I have it and it overclocks great and is loaded with features.
