After doing alot of reading on this,and similar sites, ive learned that my BIOS is pretty much bare. It's a ECS nettle2 MB driver version 5.19. I need more ram to make hellgate run a little smoother and after reading several complaints of low latency ram reverting to default timings of 5-5-5-15, I'm wondering would there be any reason to buy ram with 3-3-3-10 or 4-4-4-12 timings? Does all ram change,and need to be set manually? Is there any way to get a new BIOS? Look at the voltage of the RAM your looking to buy. Most RAM currently is sold at overclocked speeds but motherboards recognize JEDEC speeds. The SPD chip on the memory will have JEDEC timings and EPP timings and most motherboards will automatically set them to JEDEC. The standard for DDR2 is 1.8v so the timings for RAM sold at that voltage will be the timings you will get.

You also need to find out what chipset your board has and how much RAM it can support. Just an example but I just bought my GF a laptop and discovered after I received it that that max RAM it supported was 2gb. Your best bet would be to go to Mushkin.com or Crucial.com and use their advisor. Mushkin's Perfect Match and Crucial's Memory Advisor Tool will help you find out exactly what your system can handle.

Heh, the 667mhz version of that ram was what i was looking to buy http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820146093 . Chipset: mcp61 rev.2 Is there anyway to switch the timings to what i want other than through the bios? And im staring at cpuz as we type, Freaking cool as hell.

The ram from my previous post says voltage 2.1-2.3 in its specifications...would it for any reason go to 1.8v?

As far as i know the is no way to change the timings with a locked HP mobo. Probably have to go with the 1.8v 5-5-5-15 RAM

Yes, the voltage for DDR2 is 1.8v period. Your computer is an OEM with an OEM motherboard which is designed to last, not be cutting edge. Regardless of what Newegg tells you every stick of DDR2 on their site is 1.8v and has JEDEC timings programmed for that voltage. So yes when you put those in they will run at 1.8v and no it won't be at those timings. If your interested in those I would call Mushkin and ask what the timings are at 1.8v, their customer support is very helpful.
