I had an SB Audigy Gamer soundcard which had a digital jack that looks like normal analog jacks so that my BOSTON speakers could work on my system (they are digital speakers, but use a regular jack like analog speakers). Now I'm in a predicament.
It seems like the Realtek audio drivers that come with motherboards don't support these digital speakers. They seem to support digital connectors that are coaxial/optical type.. but these Boston speakers just have a normal jack like analog speakers do. My SB Audigy Gamer card had a digital jack that was like a normal jack input. My Audigy Gamer card's internal SPDIF cable (connecting from the soundcard to the motherboards spdif spot) burned itself alive for some reason. I'm not even sure if this cable was needed though.  I wonder what the cheapest way would be to fix this problem. I don't see any spdif internal connectors on newegg, and cheap analog speakers would be quite a downgrade. I wonder if there is any adapters that go from normal jack to coaxial/optical? or a cheap soundcard that supports digital speakers with a normal jack?
I see soundcards on newegg that say they are digital audio 16 bit and 24 bit.. but I don't see them coming with an internal spdif motherboard connector, and I don't see a spot on the card that has an spdif connector.. which is what made me wonder if that internal wire is even necessary.
