I'm building a new system on an ASUS Rampage. My main card is an 8800gt driving 2 dvi displays. I would like to add a second graphics card, using one of the PCI x1 slots to drive an analog crt (for photo editing, etc). Can you guys make a recommendation? Should I stick with nvidia?

it really doesn't matter which u go for, ati or nvidia, if u got to newegg and filter for only pci-e u will also see similarly prices ati cards with similar power/performance.

I think it's cool that manufacturers are finally making cards for the PCI-E 1x form factor... and I'm not just talking about graphics cards.

If you're useing Windows it does matter. Nvidia drivers and ATI drivers don't play well together. Microsoft realized this in Vista and you cannot mix Nvida and ATI card for a multi monitor configuration.

Although it will work in Windows XP there is performance hit when you do. So it is suggested to stick with ONLY Nvidia or ONLY ATI when setting up multi-monitor configuration with multiple video cards.

Printer useage

Most go into sleep mode which presumably saves power and the printer starts more quickly than if it runs through the test routines usual when first powering up. I always turn my printer off after use -- but then I don't do much printing.
