I have around a 10 year old set of Creative labs basic 2.0 speakers. they really are quality and love it. these days, qualities have degraded and its horrid! Example, had to buy a set of speakers, basic 2.0, which cost me around £40 and they were the same brand. the quality was horrific! I need speakers for my external soundcard on the laptop....

I am wondering, which are really good crystal clear speakers similar the the ones I have on the main computer? 2.0 is fine and is all i need. but the quality must be good, crystal crisp clear, so trebles are really trebles and crisp, and bass's are audible also.

or.... i could swap the 2.0 speakers I have on my main machine to the other system and get a good set of speakers for my main computer but again, which are good? 2.0 is fine, or 5.1 - whichever, but dont have alot of room to spread the 3/4/5.1 speakers. Wireless would be nice, if they exist.

Thanks

Altec Lansing make some pretty good cheapie speakers. I believe their 2.1 is about 100 Canadian.

I'm not sure how good Klipsch's desktop speakers are, but i know their home audio stuff is top notch. So if you can find some of their desktop stuff i'd try it.

bad experience with creative stuff in recent years. and the basic 2.0 speakers I bought about a month ago were really awful and nothing compared to my old trusty creative 2.0 speakers

I had the Klipsch Pro Media 2.1 and they are the best 2.1 setup you can get but they are a little out of your price range.

Logitech also makes very good speakers and the Z-2300 are a great set.

If you wanna have really good speakers try one of these monitors...
Gelelec 8020A: http://www.genelec.com/products/2-way-monitors/8020a/
and Gelelec 7050B: http://www.genelec.com/products/subwoofers/7050b/

Or if you want to have a little bit smaller:
Genelec 8010 and 5040A: http://www.genelec.com/firststep/

I own the fist ones and they are true Hifi highend active speakers, ofcource you need good sound source too.
The second is quite new, smaller and cheaper, but they should be really good at short range, when you don't need very high volumes. (like using it with computer) Bot are made from pure aluminium, so there is very little vibrations and you get very clear sound.

Not sure about laptop speakers but i want to say this about klipsch , I have the 5.1 speakers for my computer . I blew the amp after the warranty expired so i called to get it serviced . Without hassel they said they would warranty it even after the warranty expired and sent me an entire new set .This kind of customer service is unheard of in todays times and they gained my respect . So IMHO you can't go wrong with klipsch . They also soun great .

thanks folks. much appreciated.

anyway, i had store credit due to a faulty motherboard.... so, i got some 5.1 speakers. they are logitech X-530. they are no doubt better sound quality than the creative ones I purchased recently, but still not a good as my 10 year old creative 2.0 speakers.

I'm only hooking up 3 speakers to the subwoofer, even though I have turned down the volume for the subwoofer (gotta consider the neighbours), there is still some "woofing" going on... lol.

anyone know how to turn that off? or even on how to connect just the left and right channels to the soundcard? unfortunately, the speakers (satellites) all hook up with this RCA (I think) connection to the subwoofer.

I've had the z-2300's from Logitech for about a year now. They are great speakers; I especially like the sub. Sound quality is great up to the half way volume point. I was scared to blast em because I didn't want my house to collapse. :) Best 2.1's imo.
