Hello,

I have a WD 160 gb hard drive survived from my previous Raid 0 set. The drive is working fine for storage. When i install windows on it, Windows installation fails all the time saying that HD is bad. But, i run the through error test with HD Tune software , and it runs clean. Also, S.M.A.R.T shows no sign of error. But, i can never install windows on it. What is going on with the HD.

Yes, i did format the HD to clean up the file system. but, the problem still exists. What should i do?

Thanks.

Check the cable, jumper settings and config etc - also use WD's own tools to test it rather then 3rd party, and zero write it to killeverything on the drive

Do you have anything else on that IDE cable?

I remember a while back where windows was having a problem with a HD that simply worked, but it turned out I had another device that it didn't like, which was my LS-120 drive from some odd reason on the same chain cable/channel. Once I dis-connected it installation ran fine.

If its IDE, totally remove the jumper and see how that goes, also test and check the rest of your system and make sure you dont have a scratched cd or bad cd/dvd drive

IDE with Raid 0, sound more as if he using SATA,

just trya cmos reset, you are you using NTFS right?

also use archonis true image (free trail works fine) burn it to CD, run the CD (must have CD as first Boot device) then Use that to partition and rrformat. it normal does the best Job.

hope something works for you.

When you install Windows, are you hitting F6 and loading the SATA driver from diskette? Some motherboards let you set the SATA into IDE emulation. Have you disabled the RAID controller?

WD has its own diag tool for windows that will work on any drive and test any drive and do some repairs too - check on there website, best tool to kill hidden OEM (dell, hp etc) patitions and know for sure you have a fresh slate to install with.
