I've already opened a thread before, that wasn't that accurate. I've gotten a new computer (E8400, 2x1gb Corsair ram, Asus p5n-D, 2x9800GTX, LC 850W..)

And the problem here is that it doesn't recognize the dvd rom. I can put it as priority at the boot setup in bios, insert the os xp disk, but what I get is 'Disk Boot failure, Please insert system disc and press enter'

When I enter the boot setup (f8) I only can choose the HDD, the SATA2 disk that I have - seagate 500gb - There is no choosing of a cd-rom.

So I've guessed that maybe some cables aren't properly installed or that there is no jumper inserted, or that it isn't properly configurated.

Does anyone of you Know how to help ? :S

Is it an IDE or SATA dvd drive? Some newer motherboards don't recognize IDE drives properly without drivers. Or you may just have a defective drive.

I've said that it is the sata 2 disc. A brand new computer, so mostly all newer stuff.

Ah, I see. There aren't any jumpers to set. Try plugging it in another SATA socket on the motherboard. Do you have another old computer to test the drive on?

However I do not want to plug it out from the new pc. Well I've got a Sata 2 HDD, that also means that the dvd-rom is sata?

What do you mean? Is the dvdrom SATA or not? open the case and look. Those are two separate drives, one has nothing to do with the other.

Been awhile since I've need to boot from a cd/dvd.

When you have the bios set correctly, I normally see a message after the POST screen usually saying "Hit any key to boot CD" or something like that.

I guess your not even seeing that message?

But what your referring to as the SATA2 Disk, is it a CD or DVD player? In the bios, that is what should be selected to boot from it.

It's just a lil confusing in how your stating what you have hooked up.

If that is the only device on a daisy chain IDE cable, try setting the Jumper on the back to CS or cable select. It should be an item for you to select as a boot device. If its not there, your system isn't seeing it.

Edit:

It also could be a bad cable.

Yeah it's a dvd of course, and it does recognize it in the boot setup in the BIOS, I know how that works, formatted the computer many, many times.

And yeah I don't get that 'hit any key to boot cd'

It doesnt recognize it in the boot setup when I press f8 NOT in the bios, it only recognizes the HDD..

Sounds like the DVD drive or the cable, only way to find is to switch cable or test drive on another computer

OK the jumper was set on master. Yeah the two cables for the dvd-rom are good, the data-cable or whatever it is called is also connected to the motherboard, however maybe it isn't connected properly, I mean not tight enoguh. The problem here is that I cannot fix it, because of the two GPU's .. limited space to work with

Heh.. so you formated many, many, many times. Well, guess what? So have I.

So it lists the DVD in the bios? (meaning you press Del to get into the bios)

And when it boots, it lists the DVD drive on the IDE channel on the POST screen?

You kind of loose me when you press F8. Is that another option to select a boot device?

I mean if you already set the bios to boot the CD first, you shouldn't be hitting any buttons till it asks, like what I mentioned before, "hit any key to boot CD".
