Hi, I have a Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 with a speed of 2.13GHz and was wondering, what would be the implications of overclocking it all the way to 2.6GHz or 2.7GHz?

Umm, your system would be faster

Easy and prety safe to do even.
The guide is Here.
Basically, change your FSB to 333Mhz, set your vCore to 1.35v and manualy set your RAM at it's rated speed.
Test for stability with Prime95 and add more voltage as needed up to a max of 1.5v or 75c load.

specs would be nice to see if your system cam be overclocked. Im running a DS3 Gigabyte 965 board with a e6400 for a year and a half at 3.2 GHZ. Absolutely rock solid.

I'm using my previously owned (by me) E6400 to build a new PC. I'm getting the GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DS3L motherboard with an ARCTIC Freezer Pro fan for the CPU, as well as a Visiontek Radeon HD 4870 graphics card and a set of G.Skill 1GB sticks of DDR2 RAM. Would you say that this is an ok setup for overclocking? Also, how long have you had your setup before overclocking it? Would an arctic freezer pro fan be sufficient to keep the heat down?

My E6420 has been running at 3.2GHz for about a year and a half on a GA-965P-DS3. It was at that speed on day 1 and has been rock solid ever since.

The GA-EP45-DS3L is actually rated for a 1600MHz FSB and up to DDR2 1200 RAM. Running your chip at 3.2GHz (8 * 400/1600MHz FSB) would put DDR2 800 RAM at it's rated specs. The only thing that would even be running out of spec would be the CPU. That would be an easy overclock. The arctic freezer pro would be plenty for 3.2GHz. I use a Zalman 9500 which probably doesn't cool as well as the arctic freezer pro.

I too have an e6400 and a ds3 rev 1.0. I've gone to 3.0ghz but I can't keep the system overclocked since my soundcard produces a loud popping sound. :(
Otherwise, if it weren't for that, I would keep the system running at 3.0ghz no prob.. I'd probably even go higher.

Interestingly, when i did overclock, I didn't really notice a difference in performance at all. i was surprised.

If you just follow the ds3 guide in the forumz, it will help out a lot.
