Hi. I'm in need of a nice, high quality color printer recommendation. For reference currently use a Cannon i860 ink jet and we get adequate color quality and clarity. Main use is for professional clinical close up digital photography. I like cannon, but am open for suggestions. What about laser color printers? Any good. Please recommend something that can print high quality close up digital pictures. Thanks.

For high qualilty photos laser is still a no go, if you get an EXTREMELY expensive laser you will get close to the quality of your i860.

On another note... i used to repair canon's... whats wrong with your i860? they were one of the better printers around a few years ago.

If you need a new one they are worth stuff all nowadays... your i860 would be comparable to an iP4300 (still canon)... although ive seen the Pro9000 and Pro9500 in action and oh my god nice although itll cost you

We still use our i860. Need another printer for a second location. I am going to check out the iP4300 and will check the Pro9000 and 9500. Thank you so much. We are in need of a second machine that will provide clinical quality color prints and I just am not familiar with what's available.

The pro9000 and 9500 are A3 capable so you may not want to go that high. The iP6700D might also be a good look as it should provide a little more colour depth than its iP4200 counterpart...

We need to see 'true' color, any 'chips' that may be present, the malocclusion or 'bite' in close up detail as well as the 'arch' which is a mirror image photo (reversed) of the teeth. Also, high quality portrait of face head on profile open smile, etc. My wife is an orthodontist. We do most of our diagnostic work up in house. Yeah, I have had good luck with Cannon products. Your help is much appreciated.

Nothing like a set of high quality color photos to set in front of you and use as one tool to diagnose a case and draw up a plan of comprehensive treatment. A set of high quality close up before and after clinical photograps are mandatory.

I have a client who is an orthodontist and they are looking for a new printer to do the exact same thing that you are. The doctor is very demanding in regards to the quality of the photos. Did you find a suitable printer? If so, could you share the make and model with me? I've been looking everywhere for recommendations.

If your client is taking digital photographs, just make a CD and pop it in the computer and bring the photographs up on the screen. Otherwise, I think the Canon recommendations Chookman gave would be more than adequate for high quality color print outs. We use an older Canon i860 as our main machine currently. I'm sure that model is no longer available.
