More Information

Hello all,

I'm in the process of speccing a machine out and thinking to go with:

ASUS RAMPAGE FORMULA LGA 775 Intel X48 ATX Intel Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813131284

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield 2.83GHz LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80569Q9550
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6819115041

This is actually going to be my first home-built PC. I may or may not end up doing some overclocking on it. My question is, what RAM should I use? I plan to go with 8 gigabytes and just want it to perform really well. Is 800mhz sufficient or should I go to 1000 or 1066? Specific examples would be appreciated. For the most part, I don't know what is good and what isn't.

Thanks!

any ddr2-800 will do.see which one fits your budget.get a 2x2gb one.a mild OC which means 400x8.5 will get you 3.4Ghz plus those DDR800 cna be over to 900mhz at least so 450x8.5 will still get you 3.8Ghz.no bad aye?:)

assuming you can OC the ram 10% without problem.

for 800Mhz ram, you can OC Q9550 to 3.4-3.74g
1000Mhz can get you 4.25-4.68g
1066Mhz can get you 4.53-4.98g

i would go 1066, it is not much expensive than 1000 or 800

^+1 if you dont mind the $40+/- difference get the higher 1066 ram as it GAURRANTEES you can achieve a high OC.
