When you do the search, select hidden files, and make sure in folder options you turn on the ability to show hidden and system files.

Your data ( assuming you are talking about documents ) should be in a folder called C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\My Documents. However, if you installed a new installation of Windows, it could have easily overwriten that if you used the same username. You may need to get a file recovery software and run a scan of your drive to see if it will find anything.

Hi stonecaper,

You can recover files after re-installing Windows. Your previous data is present on the hard drive if it is not overwritten by other files. But to restore your data you have to use the recovery software. When I face the same problem I have used "Remo Recover Software" you can use free version of this software and evaluate the recovery result. If you satisfy with this you can purchase this software to save your data.

Best Luck! :)

Windows reinstallation actually formats the drive in it resides and empties the file system. Without taking backup you can't retrieve data. To recover lost files from reinstalled windows you can use and download demo version of this software.
