ds3l / ds3 / ds3r question, very important to me!!

Forum Motherboards & Memory : Gigabyte ds3l / ds3 / ds3r question, very important to me!!

Word :    Username :

hay,

I'm going to buy a system for some one, and maybe for myself, and I made the decision to take the intel core 2 duo e8400,
and for mobo i chose ga-p35-ds3l, or ds3 or ds3r, haven't decided yet.... (maybe you can advice me on wich one :)?)

but the problem is i looked around on the gigabyte site, and there it says that the motherboards only support the e8400 with the newest bios, f11. but what if i get a board who doesn't have this version, will i be able to post then:S? if not, how can i update my bios when my cpu doesn't support it yet :S? i don't have a spare socket 775 processor, so that's not an option.... (at the moment we only have amd in our house....)

hope you can help me with this....

excuse me for my english or if i've been vague (live in holland, 15 years old..)

thanks in advance!

could you also please look at this and help me decide? thanks alot.\!

my asus board (p5k) allows me to download the latest bios and flash it from usb.

I would expect a gigabyte board to be able to do the same.

It still needs to POST though to flash it...

I cannot give you a definite answer, however, i have seen people around the traps saying that their machines POSTed with a "unknown CPU" error it still allowed them to enter the bios and flash it no worries.

I have a P35-DS3L and my E8400 worked fine with the provided BIOS version.

I guess you can buy the board and try it. If it posts you flash it. If it doesn't post, you go back to where you bought it and ask them to flash it for you, using an older CPU to post. Find a local shop and talk to them about it. Maybe they can check the BIOS version before you buy.

Between DS3L and DS3R: DS3R supports 8 SATA devices while DS3L only supports 4. DS3R also supports RAID, DS3L doesn't. If you expect to have more than 3 hard disks + one DVD drive in the next few years then get the DS3R.

Edit: or you can buy a Q6600 and be safe. This depends on what the PC will be used for. E8400 is better for games, except in Flight Simulator X. Q6600 is better in Flight Simulator, working with video, and a bunch of other things.
