Ok so I have decided to give this whole OC thing a try but I don't seem to know just how to go about it. I have read several sources on over clocking this particular processor but have noticed my System BIOS is a little short on configuration options. Not to mention when I checked my motherboards reference book it has no section on what jumpers I can change for different configurations.

Specs:

ATHLON X2 4200+ (2.2 Ghz NATIVE)
ECS C51GM-M
1 GB KINGSTON DDR2 533(UPGRADING TO PNY OPTIMA 2GB DDR2 667 PC2 5300 NEXT WEEK)
NVIDIA GEFORCE 7600 GS DDR2 512MB PCIe(UPGRADING TO GEFORCE 8600 GTS 512MB GDDR3 PCIe NEXT WEEK)
Only have 2 stock case fans
Any help would be greatly appreciated for current and/or future upgraded system.

I'd avoid the 8600GTS. Although it is certainly an upgrade, you can probably pick up an 8800GT for not much more (if price differences are similar to Aus) and totally crush the 8600GTS. You'd need to make sure your power supply was adequate though, and also mention your budget.

As for the overclocking, jumpers are pretty old school, you shouldn't need to touch any except the CMOS reset jumper if you screw up.

not worth to buy 8600gts

*ok did some checking and there are no jumper settings that can be changed so it's all about the BIOS. In the BIOS I can change the CPU Frequency, CPU Voltage, Mem Clock Value, DIMM Voltage, CPU Speed Spectrum, & HT Speed Spectrum

I was looking at the 8800GT but noticed it called for a PCIe 2.0 and I am having trouble figuring out if I have a 2.0 or not

*Edit: I just read about the compatibility and it should work fine regardless of the PCIe Version as long as it's x16 which mines is.

Yea you won't have any problems at all. Now if your board had a VIA chipset you would be gambling to try an 8800GT with it.

GRRRRR!!!!!!!!! Just installed the new ram(PNY OPTIMA 2GB DDR2 667 PC2 5300) and I get nothing but constant beeping from my pc. I reset the cmos and left the battery out for a very long time yet still get the beeping sound. I changed the bios settings(with the old ram not new) to what the new ram required(as best I could being I could only change the timing mode: [MaxMemClock], Memory Clock value or limit [667], and DIMM voltage control [+150mV]) and yet still a beeping sound. Works fine with old ram but not with new ram. Tested the ram in another rig and the ram works flawless. =(
