You should be able to overclock a Q9550 to higher than 3.0ghz if you want. It is capable of reaching as high as 3.6ghz (9x400) without too much trouble. Be sure to get a better heatsink than the stock Intel one if you do any overclocking, however.

You may wanna think about the 9450, because it will OC to 3.6 Ghz somewhat easily.

gotrice, I'm sorry to pop your bubble, but the Q9550 has an 8.5 multiplier, and the P5W DH Deluxe, with it's 975X chipset, is a poor FSB overclocker. Most boards, even at maximum northbridge voltage, struggle to reach 420 Mhz FSB on a Dual Core, and Quad Core performance can barely reach 390 Mhz FSB.

Yes, but if you see 8.5X353 is 3.0GHz.... and the default it comes at is 8.5X334 I think, I should be able to manage to get it to 3.0GHz with no problem and plus I don't intent to go over 3.0GHz. But if I get Q9450 and with using this motherboard if i can hit 3.0GHz I'll be happy since its like about 200 dollars cheaper. Well thats what I did with my currently E6600. I got it to 3.0GHz at 1.3v vcore. I don't know lol to me 3.0GHz is just a good spot. Message edited by gotrice on 07-07-2008 at 05:33:12 AM |

Get the 9450 then, because either way, its up the the Mobo, yes? It has a x 8 Multiplier, so you'd need 375 FSB for 3.0.

you would be better off with the q9450, if i remember some mobos can't support half multipliers. |

I think one is the Xeon brand. I think the socket is 771 or something. But fundamentally, the same chip.
