Hi there

I'm new to overlcokcing and was wondering if anyone can give me settings to be able to get 3.6ghz or 4.0ghz on the following system spec


Motherboard Gigabyte ep35-ds3r
Processor Q6700
Ram 2 x 2gb Geil pc6400 800mhz
Gpu xfx 9600gt
Cooling Thermaltake Bigwater 745
Psu 700watt

as you can see cooling shouldnt be a problem since im running water cooling but everytime i try hit 3.6ghz i get the blue screen of death so any input would be much appreciated, also if there is anything that i would need to change on the system advice would be appreciated once again

Sure, how about running either real temp, or Core Temp, and listing the VID of your processor.

Okay, that is the worse possible VID. Meaning its new. Intel has been being very mean with releasing any good ones.

I have a 1.2250 and a 1.2375 and those are the 4.0 chips. (without needing more than 1.55 volts.)

You chip may or may not get 3.8Ghz at that.

You have a kit water set up. Time to check its performance, let me review my tests on a 1.3250 Q6700... Gotta find the pic...

What is your Bios revision? f12?

We need to test a few things. VDrop and droop.

Stay at stock, and hit the Bios, disable speed step, and anything like EIST!

Set the VCore manually to 1.3250

And re boot to windows. Then use CPUz and look at the Core Voltage section. List that here, please?

That reflects VDrop. The initial drop from in bios, to idle windows.

Now run Prime 95 small ffts test on all 4 cores and after 1 minute, list the now lower Core Voltage listed in CPUz, as well as your current temps with core temp and real temp. (Or just the one, if thats all you have for now.)

That will show us your VDroop. The drop from windows idle, to loaded on small ffts, all cores.

List that junk here, and then we will get onward!

Wow, guess I didnt know what I was doing when I got the pics! LOL, just looked at a q6600 @ 3.6 with 1.440 Volts, and the Q6700 was at 1.47, lol!

But I was a newb back then, for real. Only been over clocking for like maybe 6 months.

Kewl, fist step, update your Bios! It's a new box board you got as well? Can you look at the box and list the revision number?

Gotta hunt down that Bios site again. Just helped someone else with a brand new one. f2 is initial release bios. The one before people find the flaws!

There ate 11 updates already out. You want version f12.

Oh, you can easily get 3.6, prolly 3.7. I like to keep within the stock voltages. 1.500 or lower, but you can always get more outside those!

Whatever=.net I think. Maybe.com. whatever Live.xxx is.
