im using prime 95 to test my new overclock, and i was going to stress my ram. to do that i started a custom test and set the fft as 2048k-4096k. letting prime run for a few hours will check my RAMs stability, right?? or did i mess that up? Thanks

Run small ffts to test cpu stability for about 10hrs or so. Then test blended mode for 10hrs or so, and it will see if the ram is stable.

if i run the small ffts i get a blue screen and i need to restart it. so i thought that i would just test the ram so i can concentrate on the cpu later.

also my q6600 (9x333) runs at about 60c-65c while running the small ffts. i have a zalman 9700, is this normal?

Can you list your VID? You can find out your VID from realtemp or coretemp. What are you using to measure temps?

you want the multicore prime95 version to test all 4 cores aswell

seems a little hot for a decent copper cooler

bsod's mean you have pushed something too far, or without sufficent vcore (or too much etc)

my vid is 12625. im using core temp, hw monitor, and real temp. i increased my cpuv by + 0.75 v and had what i thought was a stable overclock. i ran prime95 small ffts for over ten hours with no errors before i stopped it. the temps did get to around 60c but i was happy that it just didnt crash.

so i thought it was stable. than i went to run the crycis bench mark and my computer restarted as it was loading. so i rebooted and went to post a topic here, and it restarted. it also restarts on idle. with 10h of prime95 small ffts i thought that my cpu was stable, so im guessing that this is my ram. bu ti have it set to auto so i dont know what to do. any suggestions??

What RAM are you running?

voltage is 2.ov and all timings are set to auto..

All RAM timings are set to auto.

1. Try increasing RAM voltage to 2.1-2.2v. esp. since you are running 4*1GB. Manually set timing to 5-5-5-15.

2. Run Memtest86+ and see if the RAM is good.

3. Try increasing your Northbridge voltage by +.1 or so along with increasing CPU voltage.

ok, il do that and post my results as soon as run some tests. and ive had no problems with my ram for over a year so i think its good but il still test it

and should i increase the ram's mhz or leave it linked to the cpu, my mobo dosent allow me to set a cpu/ram ratio, but it does allow me to link them

i still am not able to run the crysis benchmark without restarting, and i played ti for about 10 mins before i got a blue screen. im going to test the ram and will post later

blarg MSI problem number one, and i think that N stands for Nvidia, which chipset is that? something that can actually pull off 1333mhz FSB without increasing the chipset vcore?

oh, and set your ram manually to 1:1 (667mhz per channel), and raise your cpu vcore till it floats just below 1.4v and see how that goes (shouldnt need it but this is MSI garbage, and its prolly vdroop'ing below 1.2v anyhow, and 1.45 is even considered safe etc)

Do you still need to test the RAM if the RAM is underclocked?

The standard 'blend' prime95 option will do that just fine, memtest in my opinion only finds memory flaws, not instabilities (from overclocking etc - iv seen PC66 ram pass tests @ 110mhz but will not post to windows etc), most of the memory i have seen acts odd when underclocked (eg timings - C5 @ 800, C4 @667) - sometimes iv seen it get worse under clocking, hence why i always suggest MANUALLY CONFIGURE ALL MEMORY SPECS AND TIMINGS.

this is a 680i mobo and it can handle up to 1333mhz fsb. it is terrible for overclocking, but right now its all i have.

and as apache said to set it to 1:1.... i cant. the mobo wont let me. but i can link the cpu and ram times and that is what im doing. and with +0.075v to the cpuv core my voltage is anywhere from 1.28-1.33v.if i increase the voltage too much i get restarts constantly. since i ran prime 95 small ffts for over 10 hours that means the cpu is stable and it has to b the mobo or the ram right?? or am i missing something

and increasing the ram voltage up to 2.2v and setting it to 5-5-5-15 dosent seem to help. should i try to increase the ram mhz??

ALSO i just ran prime 95 blend mode( it said that it tests a litle bit of everything) it crashed....so im lost

the lower those numbers are, the faster/harder the ram works so yes 5-5-5-15, and sync with the fsb is 1:1 (ratio)

if more vcore = more crashing it could mean your cooler might not be seated correctly, putting out more heat, more instabilities etc?

also chipset temps and vcore, pcie frequencies etc, and btw was that a G0 processor revision?

yes this is a GO processor. it idles at 36c-40c and under some load (older games, scans, things like that) the temps never excede 55c. just at prime95 for a few hours it gets that hot. pcie is at its default of 100, and here is all my info as of today

i tried increasing the ram's MHZ from 800 to 1066 with thoes settings, and my comp froze.not gona do that again. but im thinking of lowering the mhz to 667 tomorro and il c how that works

and i noticed that my cpuv ranges from 1.26v-1.33v anything else and i got problems. but im still leanin twards the ram or the mobo cuz of the 10hours of prime 95 small ffts.....so ya theres my update fo the day. and thanks everyone for your help.
