I know there is already a Q9450 OCing thread, but it is pretty off-topic, and pretty inactive. So, I am a first time builder, and just ordered my parts today. I am getting
Of course, there is more stuff, but I think this is all that matters. I don't plan on overclocking this very far, 3.5-3.6 at most. I still want this to last a good amount of time. Can anyone give me some tested voltages and speeds. Normally, I would experiment a little myself, but I first of all do not want to risk damaging my machine at all. (Like I said, I'm not getting another rig for a VERY long time.) Thanks for all the help! EDIT: My case is the NZXT Tempest, which I think has 6 fans.

apparantly OC the P45 is not as simple as P35 because lots of fine tune is needed. |

@paris: I already ordered my parts, so thats out of the question. I have decided maybe I will just go for 3.4Ghz, because it needs to last for a long time. At 3.4, the FSB will need to be 425 (*8). The CPU has a FSB wall of 450, so I am still on the safe side. Obviously, it won't be just as simple as changing the FSB to 425. There has got to be some voltages etc. that I need to change. blerb, I believe unless your ambient room temperature is very low (your room feels cold) you may have some high temps with 3.4Ghz on a Q9450 with an Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro. ...shoulda had a Xigmatek S-1283 or one of its brethren. The ACF7P is a good cooler but not best suited to overclocked quad cores. Message edited by halcyon on 06-24-2008 at 10:41:41 PM |

i really no idea how "cool" is hte 45nm quad. but on the Q6600 its max max limit is 3.2Ghz, no more. with a high VID it will even cook at 3Ghz. |

@iluvgillgill the max on a Q6600 is not 3.2ghz, I run mine all day long at 3.6 on a 790i Ultra Board, using a Ultra Chilltec Thermo Electric Cooler. There are several others who I have seen at even higher frequencies once they go into water cooling. It has been known to run stable to 3.8GHZ.

Okay. I have the computer all built now, and I am stable at 3.2Ghz. But the voltage is set to Auto, so I am probably getting higher temps than necessary.
