Hey guys.

I am not a heavy overclocker; I actually still use the stock HSF for my Q6600. However, I recently got it stable at 300 MHz x 9.0... at only 1.125 volts (in the bios. SpeedFan and CPU-Z read it at 1.1v)! SpeedFan is reading temps that are ~5 C lower than stock speed and voltage.

I only had time to Prime95 it for about half an hour, though. I had a few questions...

1. Should I stress it for longer?

2. It is plausible to go even lower on the voltage?

3. Will I break anything by undervolting?

1. 6hours is fine really, if you're not going to do anything CPU intensive.

2. Yeah. As long as it's stable, who cares if it's too low?

3. No. Th worse that can happen is prolonging the cpu life. You don't want that to happen.

2. Like shadow said, depends on VID. I got a VID of 1.20 and have it running below that by a reasonable margin.

Thanks for your input. I ended up with 2.76 GHz @ 1.13v - I Prime95'ed it for a few hours and Prime stopped working, though. Is this an error that could be fixed by raising the voltage a bit?

hey deadboots, how about running Core Temp and listing what it says your VID is?

wh3resmycar, you are running quite a bit faster than deadboots is. Vcore doesn't usually scale linearly, it's usually exponentially. If you were take the fsb down to 300 you might be able to drop the voltage.

Also 1.3v is still within Intel's recommended voltage specification, so if it does shorten it's life, it will not be noticeable to you. Probably by the time it would die from the overclock your q6600 would be the equivalent to a p1 or less
