I recently got hold of a ASUS Maximus Extreme x38 for my rig im building, i went for this mobo as it seemed very future proof. But im worried now, does this mobo only support DDR3 memory? Because i have 2x1GB DDR2 1066MHz Corsair Dominator PC2-8500.

The box sez 1800, 1600, 1333,1066, 800 DDR3, but will my 1066 DDR2 Cor Dom work?

MAXIMUS EXTREME = DDR3 ONLY
MAXIMUS FORMULA = DDR2 ONLY

so unfortunately u cant use your DDR2 on that board

also DDR3 isnt future proof, because the difference between DDR2 and DDR3 is 5-10% which isnt noticeable
