My Asus Striker shuts down after about every 45seconds of being turned on. I cannot even install windows xp on it yet in this condition. I tried the following things to no avail so far...Another strange occurance is that in my bios temperature monitoring section, my CPU reads 119c .

-Memory Voltage from (Auto 1.9v) to 2.1v
-Memory Timings (Auto) to 5-4-4-15
-CPU Thermal State: Disabled
-CPU vcore (Auto) to 1.35v
-(Default) DDR2 800mhz changed to Linked/Synced @667

Does anyone have any other suggestions? Here is a spec list.

I have Asus striker extreme mobo it use to shutdown as well. The cause was the cpu heat sink was not installed correctly causing the Bios to shut it down when the CPU overheated. Also if you are OC your Cpu put it back to stock.

I agree with the king, it is most likely your CPU temp causing this issue. I would just reset MOBO to default settings totally and go from there. What bios version are you using?

Yes I agree a CPU running at 119c is never a good thing. Don't think its anything to do with the BIOS though. I would remove the heatsink, clean off all thermal paste, reapply it and reseat the heatsink making sure it is correctly seated and that you haven't used too much thermal paste.

alright thanks guys, i reseated the heatsink and all works fine now and cpu reading 34c

but how did my cpu survive 119c?

The C2D is able to shut itself down if it overheats and most Mobo BIOS also can shutdown your pc if the CPU gets to hot. Thank Intels thermal protection system.

Ya, but CPU Thermal Control was disabled in my striker bios by default. And how did it survive 119c? Because it was only 45seconds? I thought 119c was instant death for the epoxy inside the cpu?

The C2D has a built in Threshold shutdown it is not controlled by the BIOS although some mobo BIOS can be configured to shutdown if the CPU gets too hot. You can not disable this option it is built in on all C2D's.

Although these features protect your CPU it does not mean it wont get damaged or shorten it lifespan if such events occur. I guess you lucky the CPU never go up in smoke like the Old AMD's use to !!!

I agree I wouldn't be suprised if you haven't lowered the lifespan of the CPU a bit, buy hey, its working at the moment.
