To be honest if you really want to overclock your E8400 you might have to think about getting 8000+ RAM. The 6400 allows a 3.6Ghz o/c.

The Corsair and GeIL will both go over the std 400fsb, but only a certain amount. I don't know the specifics however, to get a good stable over 3.6Ghz overclock you will have to think on getting 8000+.

Maybe the 2x 2GB G.Skill 8000+ for example. Probably in the same price range anyway...i.e:

As closed deal has indicated, depending on how far you plan on OCing the E8400, you may want to invest in faster ram. Ram is dead cheap these days, and most 800MHz ram can do 900MHz, perhaps 950MHz, but if you don't want to risk it, get 1066MHz ram.

Most ram are more or less the same. Our ram master here says to buy the ram with the lowest voltage. So if you spot a ram that's 800MHz 4-4-4-12 that uses 2.1V compared to a ram with the same exact specs but only uses 1.8V, the ram that uses 1.8V is better quality ram.

I can vouche for the Corsairs, since that's what I'm using as you read this. The max I can get out of them when running 4 sticks seems to be 853Mhz @ 5-5-5-12. I've hit this wall on both an Asus Striker Extreme and Asus Rampage Formula. Their replacement is 2 kits of this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820227289

If you are planing on getting RAM natively higher than DDR2 800 be aware that there will be compatibility issues. Many users reports and my personal testing has shown that there is a very good chance you will run in to issues with RAM higher than DDR2 800, such as DDR2 1066. I recommend you get quality DDR2 800 RAM and run them at 1:1 ratio or overclock the RAM. This issue dose not apply to DDR2 800 RAM that has been overclocked.This mainly applies to P35 based boards such as the DS3L.

Shadow, you'd written that b4 and I recalled it so yesterday when I was getting ready to buy my RAM upgrade I went to NewEgg and under each brand/model I considered I search for my motherboard until I saw other reviews that the same RAM worked on my motherboard. Not foolproof but I'm hoping that will lead me into better compatibility.

damn i can't buy from anysite i live in middle of nowhere it seems and ddr2 1006 are too expensive and there is no 4gb(2*2) it's going to be problem with dual 1*2 dual channels or not?( i mean 4*1gb)

ti says it's good ram for money and not bad for overclock: 1160 on 2volt.
