Yes, that's a little high.

All the heat that your video cards are generating is being pumped back in to your case, through your CPU, etc. You would drop your temps by a lot if you went with a dual-slot cooling solution especially with 2 cards. You can buy a dual-slot cooler for the 8800GT cards for about $40 a piece if it's worth it to you (assuming your cards are single-slot).

What kind of pics can you post? Maybe there are some suggestions we may have with cable management and other things.

ltrambo85, your Idle is definately too high, however, it's important to be specific.

At what Vcore?
At what ambient?
Using what cooler?
Using which temperature monitoring utility?
At what Load temperature with Prime95 Small FFT's?
CPU temperature (Tcase) or Core temperatures (Tjunction)?

I would not call 48 dangerous in anyway for idle.

My girlfriends E6600 idles at 44 because of no speedstep or C1E(the board would not allow me to lower the cpu voltage[to 1.2] without this, and since the machine is loaded always when its on the power savings are not there) and a low air flow case. I gets to about 52 with Prime95.

In your case it sounds like either no speedstep/C1E or the boards auto fan control is slowing down the fan to make it quiet.

Load temps are more important to me.

Get prime95 and see how hot it gets at load

http://www.majorgeeks.com/Prime95_d4363.html

I normally do not worry about video temps(as long as the card is not too loud a video card can take allot. X1900XT + failed fan + 119c = a card that ran like that for hours maybe even days and still works to this day.) in your case there is plenty of fresh air from the side fan that should push the hot air away and the card should adjust its fan speed to keep it self cool.

ATI tool has a good feature to heat up a video card hotter then almost any game, if you want to see load temps give that a try. The temps should not pass 80-90 on most cards(i am betting yours will be less since the G92 runs cooler).

So... much... light...

Looks like you have a chip like my E6600, but then I only have a single 9600GT and get the same temps.

I dont know what speed step is but ill check for the auto fan now. I just had a bsod after 4 hours of gaming dunno what caused it though hmmm.

You should first get your load temps. many users idle at 30-35 but still load at 55 so if you idle 48 and load at 55 i would see no issues(with the exception to the fact that you are using a bit more power)

If you want to try those, they will lower idles(i am not sure how much with the low multi on a 6300), but do nothing for loads anyway
Turn them on and set your power settings in windows to portable/laptop.

Both the settings effect the cpus idle temps in a slightly different way

Speedstep drops voltage and clock speed by the multilayer. So in my case i go from load at 3.0(9 multi) to idle at 2.0(6 multi) and a voltage of 1.2 to 1.12. This gives my quad idle temps of 30-35, but the loads are still 48(on a cool day with high fan speed) to ~57 with the boards fan control on.

C1E does not change speed as far as i know(there are users here that can describe it much better), but does do voltage. I did note a cooler idle temp with it.

On some boards with an overclock these option do not work right, so you will need to test stability again(i have had no problems, but one board, the P5W DH, will not allow[grayed out] it when I change the voltage).

More info.

You can also use a program called Core Temp(with prime95) to get your load temps, it measures from the hottest part of the cpu so do not be alarmed if it measures higher. Thats what most of us around here use to get temps.

http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/

Your temps are safe and the higher idles are just the lack of speed step and C1E(something that may not be worth it for some boards with overclocking and on a cpu thats always loaded anyway)
