Seems like to me either drivers for crossfire isn't mature or the 8800GTS 512mb is just plain better(in most cases). I believe the 3850 512mb costs ~$209, so the 8800GTS 512mb is a better buy...if it's priced under $400. Well, the 8800GT is still the best deal :)

Are these games even optimized to take advantage of crossfire?

If you read the article, yes some does. I think it might be more crappy drivers for crossfire.

"Some", that must be where the 3850 beats the 8800 GTS.

Yes, premature drivers should be the reason to the performance gap between them. Plus the motherboard they used isn't the Spider platform. The platform of which these cards perform optimally on.

it would have been nice to see how single 3850 would compare against the crossfire setup, or 3870 for that matter, just to see how well it scales up

I notice they dont give you single card results on the 3850...

Definetly premature drivers... as is always said 1 fast GPU is usually better all round than 2 mid range

From what I heard the 3850 crossfire was just as good as a GTX if not better in some cases.

i really would not trust that resource. in just about every single review i have seen on other sites, 3850 256 crossfired is equivilant to the GTX and sometimes even the Ultra on many benchmarks...this is the only review i have seen where crossfired 3850s get beat by a single 8800GT

Um...yeah. 3850 Crossfire beats an Ultra in Crysis, and the 3870 Crossfire beats the Ultra at everything. It was released two days ago, so I'm guessing they were using the latest driver. So drivers do make a difference! omgsh!
