I was wondering if anyone could help me out. This is the first computer I tried building and its working pretty well, so far. My question is this...I'm running an EVGA 780i mobo and a 500GB Seagate SATA HD...with only one HD do I need to, or should I set it up as a RAID? If so, can someone explain how ( I know its in the BIOS/CMOS) in a real simple to understand explanation. I have no idea and after all the reading I did, all I did was confuse myself more :o Thanks for any help!!!

on board RAIDS are pretty simple. At start up, boot to the raid manager...so if you have 2 drives (they have to be the same. So 2 500GB Seagate SATA HD), the RAID manager will show the two drives. And at point, its a matter of chosing what type of raid do you want.

Your mobo manual should tell you who to set up a radi as well...

one drive is fine.

No, you don't set up a RAID with just one drive.

Also, while arrays consisting of identical drives are typically most efficient, you can certainly use different manufacturers and even sizes of drives to create an array. Just keep in mind that you're limited to the smallest of your drives. So, if you had a 500GB drive, and a 250GB drive and wanted to set up a mirrored (RAID 1) array, the max size of the array would be 250GB.
