More Information

I want to use a new SAS drive with my laptop.

->How do I power and interface to a SAS drive?...I hope like a SATA2 hdd!

When I got my laptop 1/07, I "boosted" it by removing the internal ('slow', costly, 100GB) 2.5" Seagate 7200.1 hdd.

Instead I run a SATA2 interface cable from the laptop's internal hdd connector to a (no enclosure) external 3.5" bare hdd, with an external ps.

My "ext-int system" cost $55 and reduces my portability--yet I don't move @ much and WOW, what benefits!

The external laptop hdd is 2x faster, 4x more storage, and costs the same as the 2.5" hdd ($55 for cables+ps + $100 hdd).

I now want to upgrade my "ext-int system" with a new SAS drive (eg, 146GB Cheetah 15K.6 for <$300 <> beats SSD IMO).

->SO...how do I power and interface to a SAS drive?!

I searched a lot, but found only that SAS connectors are backwards compatible with SATA2.

Any help kindly appreciated!
