I need an external HD with Firewire 800 capability for my Macbook Pro. This is for music recording - I record directly to the external HD so it needs to have quick transfer rates. Also, I would prefer something quieter. Probably looking around 500GB - are there big differences between the name brands - Maxtor, iOmega, Western Digital - when it comes to desktop external HD's?
