Hey, I am about to start buying my new system and thought of getting a new HD as well. The one I am looking at right now is SATA II, but the mobo that I want to get (Asus P5Q P45) says on the specs just SATA. Will a SATAII HD work with it? Or is this different from things like DDR2 vs DDR?

Ah I figured it out, SATAII is just another name for SATA 3gb/s.

Yep, and it is backwards compatible (A SATA-2 device plugged into a sata-1 port will still work just fine, similar to USB).
