I have one drive and I was wondering if I could add another in RAID 1 without clearing the first one.

Whether you can do this or not depends on whether the RAID controller you have supports this type of migration, and whether you can get the drivers for that RAID controller installed into your Windows installation.

You may have to so some version of the procedure in the sticky thread at the top of the Hard Disk forum called "Switching Storage Controllers without Reinstalling Windows".
