My husband ran the spyware/anti-virus portion of google updater, and found that we have one keystroke copier software on our computer (or did, he had it removed). How do these programs work? In order for it to be installed, does someone need physical access to my computer? Or can it be done from a remote location, and if so, is there a way to tell where it originated? We do have a roommate with access to our computer. Thank you for your help, Krista

It can be done remotely -- so don't blame the room mate (necessarily).

I think I would run a careful scan on the system to look for Trojans (I use SuperAntiSpyware with Avast and Process Explorer).

i can be done both ways.

on one hand, your roomate or yourself could have browsed a bad website, which loaded a keylogger on your system. keyloggers generally look for credit card information and stuff like that. people want to make money.

on the other hand, i myself have used a keylogger to find out the password to get past internet protection when i was like 15 trying to look at p0rn sites. worked like a charm. So if you suspect your roomate wanted your creditcard info or something else that uses a password you would enter on your pc. there you go.

hope that helps.
