Interesting they snuck a HD2900GT in that review.

Likely they did that because the 2900Pro/2900GT matches the $199/$249 price points of the 8800GT 512 & 8800GT 256.
It would have been nice to see the 8800GT/256 benchmarked too.  

Honestly though. Considering the performance of the 8800 GT...This would be one of the only moment I'll ever recommend SLI. When I do decide to build my new rig, If there is no new high end out I'm going to nab 2 of these suckers.

Yea I am definitely replacing my X1900XTX 512mb this x-mas with either the 8800GT or the new ATI HD 3800 series in thats in the same price range if it shows up well this time around. I think it will be money well spent! lol

What's interesting about it? Everything we've seen so far shows the 8800GT performing very well, but still marginally slower than the GTX across the board... or am I mistaken?

The 8800 GT is a great card. It can surpass the 8800 GTX in a few benchies but not all. There will be numerous titles that it won't be able to cope against the 8800 GTX...Which I'm glad for...This is a midrange...Not a high end solution. If it beat the 8800 GTX across the board there'd be a major problem...

The 8800gt sli setup beats the gtx every time. The results for crysis do not have a 8800gt sli setup. I am leaning towards getting two 8800gt cards for sli. I currently play my games on my samsung 61" dlp at 1080p and need all the power I can get. I have to admit I am spoiled playing at this resolution and screen size. I tried playing on my 20" widescreen but it is no comparison.

I have to admit that thought crossed my mind too.  But in the back of my mind Im thinking - "damn! what will the NEXT Nvidia card released be like?"  I've been holding off thinking about a 24" LCD because of the cost of dual/SLI 8800GTS/640.  But it looks like 19x12 nirvana just had $300 lopped off the price of admission.  
Still hard to recommend SLI to someone unless they know their "primary game" makes it worthwile.
At the moment for me thats MS Flight Simulator X (and other flight and racing sims) but I have been looking at World in Conflict.  And so I wont benefit the way someone whose primary game is going to be Unreal Tournamen 3

DX9 16x12 @ 40 w/ AA+AF

DX10 16x12 @ 42 w/ NO AA/AF.  That comparison had me flipping back and forth till I saw the differences in AA/AF.

I must admit I'm getting excited about the idea of two 8800GT's outperforming a GTX, and i think they'll still come out cheaper.
 
AMD/ATI will really have to pull a rabbit out of a hat with the HD3800 to stop me buying two GT's in January when i eventually upgrade.

At 1920x1200 with 4xAA the 8800GT isn't even close to keeping up with the 8800GTX.  

anyone know if 2 8800GT in Sli will work at 8x PCI-E slots? I am asking this because my mobo is an asus p5ne-sli..

8800GT is a solid performer, no doubt about it , but it falls behind a 8800GTX in very high resolutions (just like 8800GTS 640 vs 320)
