I have been looking at these motherboards:

Asus Maximus Extreme Intel X38 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard

Asus Striker Extreme nForce 680 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

I dont know which one to get. I dont mind about the price difference between these. I just want the best for gaming. I will be having 4gb DDR2 1033 mhz memory and intel core 2 quad q6600.

I know the Asus Maximus Extreme Intel X38 is newer so is that going to be better because it will have newer technology and features? When will it be out?

Please can you recommend me on which motherboard to get?

If you want SLI get striker. If you want crossfire get X38

I am going to be using the Geforce 8800GTS, only one of them.

Crossfire is SLI for ATI cards.

I have a striker extreme and before I replaced it it was quite buggy. Get the maximus...although I did not research that one...still though you might want to go with the newest chipset so go with the maximus.

DDR3 is extremely expensive now.

DDR2 slots are different from DDR3 slots, so no.

if u wont use SLI, get a P35 board like ASUS P5K-E, GIGABYTE P35 DS3R, ABIT IP35 PRO and save some $

Sounds like you want a X38 chipset. Look at these, they need DDR2 memory:

I dont understand why it says this on the official Asus website:

"Intel® X38 Chipset

Thats saying it does support DDR2 memory but your saying it does not?

X38 boards are different , some support only DDR2 RAM like ASUS MAXIMUS FORMULA and some of the support only DDR3 RAM like ASUS MAXIMUS EXTREME

the Maximus Extreme is supposed to come out next week (Nov. 7th). Board is supposed to be in the $400 range. DDR3 is also more expensive, but you can find good Cellshock DDR3-1600 for $380 http://www.memoryc.com/products/de [...] index.html (2gb)...which is cheaper than top line DDR2. I plan on getting Maximus Extreme, 2gb DDR3 and Vista 32-bit. late next year when DDR3 is cheaper I'll pick up another 2gb and switch to Vista 64-bit.

I want to buy 4gb ram and DDR3 is too expensive for 4gb ram. So i will be getting 4gb of DDR2 ram. Which means i have a choice out of:

ASUS MAXIMUS FORMULA
ASUS STRIKER EXTREME

The formula is newer so would this be better? They are both around the same price so i dont mind which i get.

Go for MAXIMUS FORMULA

Both are good boards. The Maximus has slightly higher OC possibilities but the Striker is no OC slouch.

Does anybody know when the MAXIMUS FORMULA was released?

Get the Maximus Extreme since the Striker doesn't support PCIE 2.0, and it's already setup for H20. If you do H20 though get 2 T's so you can make a parallel loop instead of a series loop, also use your own tubing and clamps instead of the supplied. I've heard that the NB block is a little restrictive, although I haven't had any issues with my Maximus SE. There is also the slight chance of Nvidia allowing SLI on the X38 chipsets in the future, even though they say no now, that doesn't mean it's that way forever.
