Every Mac that I pick up is noticeably heavier then PC's that I pick up. Why?

Because Macs have an heat to energy condenser which is made of steal ( about a pound ) and the warp coils weight a bit too. On the bright side, this allows the system to reach warp 4, faster then and IBM clone system which is limited to impulse.

Can you please support your question with references regarding weight for the computer in question and at least 3 counter examples supporting your claim?

Dell/Gateway/Compaq/Hp???

Yeah... The Dell Optiplex 740, my personal PC, my old PC (a cyberpowerpc build... first and last), dell Optiplex 560, Dell Optiplex 580, I would have to find the old Compaqs (at work we are phasing them out), from what I can understand any home dell, hp, compaq, acer, or e-machine. I am excluding the XPS from this list cause that is heavy as hell.

lol, i love you guys. But na, I am seriously woundering why they are heavier. I can understand the older one that is the crt monitor and computer all in one. But even the tower (when they had just towers) is heavy. I know this can't be becuase they use better quality cause my pc has much high quality parts in it then a mac.

I am not trying to flame mac, I am actually thinking of getting a mac book in a few years if they fix their keyboard issue, cat pad (the pad use move your fingure over), and weight problem. I also don't like that they mac book is so heavy. I like the power options and that it just works. I don't like how warm they get... they feel a bit warmer then my vaio.

I am starting to think they have the golden poo brick of steve jobs marketing bs in them.

Seriously the only Mac that I have actually seen up close and personal had a case that was made from Steel or thick Aluminum where as most of the Hells and Hpooo, Gatewhats and whatever else have had cases made of plastic over thin steel sheeting or plastic with a steel frame.

Maybe it is nothing more than a heavier frame and case being used.

Apple makes their money on selling an image, not a quality product. While PC manufactures design a product that performs the best, Apple designs products that best fit their marketing image. Also, the vast majority of mac owners have little to no computer expertise. While we here would look for an aluminum case with one zillion fans, the mac owner would likely associate weight and swanky design with quality. Building a steel case with steel heat sinks makes sense for Apples' market, for they care much more about the way their product looks than how it performs. Because of this, Apple puts way more money in their case design relative to hardware than say dell or HP. Again, this is why, dollar for dollar, an Apple is an under performing machine compared to virtually any PC, and subsequently why macs feel like a brick compared to a PC.

The Mac's i've seen have very sturdy cases made of steel, whereas the majority of IBM clones are aluminum. I know my server case is made of steel, and it's heavy as crap even for it's size.

95% of all PC's I've ever worked on over the last 12 years are made out of steel. Aluminium is only used in high end cases, as steel is cheaper then Aluminium.

Either produce some weight values for the products you are comparing, or forget about it. Your argument makes no sense without examples.

That does it. I'm getting a scale, and weighing every Mac in the building. Results as soon as I find a scale big enough.
